Computer Radiography - CR

Checking the thickness of pipes with the Computer radiography (CR) technique

With Computer radiography there is no need to remove the insulation or prepare the surfaces.

This technique is mainly used for checking the thickness of pipes, without having to remove the insulation, and for carrying out the surface preparation required by traditional
techniques (CUI - corrosion under insulation)

The image, acquired with normal gammagraphic technique on photosensitive phosphorplatesand imported through digital scanners, allows to examine on video the
section of the controlled element and to measure its residual thickness, using the appropriate software, in the desired points.

There are several advantages in digital radiography, such as:

  • Possibility of archiving in digital format
  • Shorter exposure time (decreasing the risks of radiation protection)
  • Corrosion control (CUI) without removing the insulation
  • Environmental protection, as it does not require development processes with acids.

Thanks to the latest generation scanners by Carestream HPX-1 Plus, with resolution up to 20 microns and with high resolution phosphor screens, ISPECO performs the control
of the welds with digital radiography
according to current legislation.
