The check does not require the removal of the insulation or protective coatings

Among the major problems in the oil & gas field and in storage plants there is corrosion under insulation, which in the past has led to unexpected breakages with serious consequences.

For this reason, the companies have decided to focus their attention above all on the verification and monitoring of the phenomenon of corrosion under insulation (CUI).
Among the various systems, one of the most reliable is control via Pulsed Eddy Currents (PEC).

This control allows the verification of corrosion without the need to remove the insulation, the protective coating of paint or the fire proofing.

Its main use is on:

• insulated lines or equipment (Corrosion Under Insulation - CUI)
  
• lines with protective coating (bitumen, resins etc.)
  
• spherelegs or support structures of the equipment (skirts) covered with fire
  proofing (Corrosion under fire proofing - CUF).
  

Depending on the probes used, this system allows the control of lines, equipment and columns of various diameters and thicknesses of insulation, saving time and money for support works (insulation and re-insulation).

The PECT technique returns a qualitative assessment of the residual wall thickness on ferromagnetic material and is used as a mass screening and monitoring technique over time, thanks to its high reading stability and easy calibration.
